Employers Share “Career Advice and a Slice” at Old Dominion University

The challenge is to always find new and innovative ways to get important information to students in a format they will understand and to which they will respond. How many times as career services professionals have we been in the position of having a really great program idea, going through the steps to ensure a great turn out, then finding on the day of the event that there are only a few students in the audience? It is not that the students aren’t interested; it may just be that they are not interested in hearing “us” say what has to be said. (Click Here for Entire Article)

A Note of Thanks

I had the privilege of winning the 2004 SACE professional development scholarship and, as a result, was able to attend the SACE conference in New Orleans. I have not been able to attend the SACE conference since 1997 because of budgetary issues and have missed attending the conference. I was so pleased by my experience in New Orleans. The conference programs, activities, networking, and keynote speakers were wonderful and I came home with resources and contacts that will allow me to do my job better. Thanks for offering this wonderful opportunity.

SACE Professional Development Expertise Directory Gets A New Look

In this time of shrinking office budgets, have you felt the need to talk with a SACE colleague who had expertise in creative funding? Have you been trying to bridge the gap with academic affairs and needed tips on faculty outreach? Perhaps you’re an employer who is trying to establish a college relations program or develop a list of target schools for recruiting purposes.

SACE has a professional expertise directory that provides the names of members with selected areas of expertise that are willing to share with their fellow SACE members. A survey will soon be going out to the membership, that will allow us to update this valuable resource. Our goal is to have a final product that will allow members to search the directory based on their needs.

Please watch your Inbox for this on-line survey, and when it comes, please participate!

Quick Question:What did you enjoy most about this year’s SACE conference?

My favorite part of SACE is the exchange of ideas of best practices. I would like to see more of that. I also love the social and networking time. I also enjoy the state meetings and think we should conduct a little business as well as have our social gathering.

Vicky Fioranelli, Delta State University
