Kim Evans

Where are you from? I am originally from Raleigh, NC. After graduation I lived in Orlando, FL for 5 years and now live in Atlanta, GA, where I've been for 4 years.
Educational background? I graduated in 1995 from the University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill with a B.A. in Journalism and Mass Communications.
How long have you been in your field? 2 1/2 years.
Hobbies? I love watching sports, especially the NFL and college basketball. I also like to read, listen to live music, and spend time with my two dogs.
What do you like most about your job/career? I love recruiting interns for Disney because that's where I started my career, as an intern with Disney. It's a wonderful company to work for because their values and commitment are so strong. When you believe in what you are doing and have passion for it, it makes the job easy and worthwhile.
How have you been actively involved in SACE? I have been involved with SACE for
2 1/2 years. I have attended 3 conferences and I am currently the Volunteer Coordinator for the second year in a row. It's true what they say, the more you put into it, the more you get out of it!
Anything else you'd like to add? Especially if you are a new professional, get involved! We are all busy but there are different levels of time and commitment. Find what's comfortable for you. It makes your membership that much more rewarding.

How long have you been in your field? While completing my graduate degree, I received an assistantship in the Office of Career Services at The University of Alabama. This is when my passion for the field was confirmed and ignited. I had a great supervisor, and mentors who provided me with the opportunity to develop and hone the skills needed to be effective in the profession. This April will make four years in the profession, as I secured my first full-time position in Career Services April, 2001 as Career Planning Specialist at The University of Mississippi.

Also, the feeling I get when I am assisting students and “the light” comes on as they begin to imagine and voice a career action plan for their future. Also, I take pleasure in having the opportunity to empower individuals to make more informed decisions about their future.
