The President’s
Roundtable (PRT) Update
The PRT had two very productive meetings last fall with discussions
focused on B.O.N.D. Report recommendations and improved collaboration
among the associations. The group hosted Dr. Nancy Isaacson,
an associate with the Center for Organizational Reform, who
acted as facilitator of discussions and kept the group in
focus.
Continuing discussions regarding total restructuring of the
associations into a model with a national association as “parent”
to the regionals was tempered by the reality of the enormous
legal and financial resources necessary to move in this direction.
However, future discussions will continue with the potential
for a new association structure as a strong possibility. Realistically,
the group proceeded to focus on better identifying the national
and regional association roles, and addressing potential for
change and positive growth in several critical areas. General
areas of discussion have included governance, management associations,
the use of technology, conferences, training and professional
development collaboration, regional association mergers, reorganization
of the PRT with a defined decision-making role (a concept
in its infancy), and professional accreditation and certification.
PRT discussions have been open, honest, and highly productive
overall. Current initiatives in progress include:
- Final stages of a merger between WACE and RMACE
- Continued Merger Task Force discussions between SACE
and SWACE
- A collaborative association task force evaluating the
development of professional certification for the profession,
and professional accreditation for career services offices.
In July, important leadership changes will take place within
the associations, and these changes will be evident within
the PRT as new talent and new ideas will be added to the history
of positive collaboration. These are very exciting times for
our profession, and we welcome and fully support the opportunities
to participate in the important work of advancing our profession.
